Escola Europea celebrates 20 years, honouring Emanuele Grimaldi for his support

At celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport, held in Barcelona on 14 October, Emanuele Grimaldi received the Arété Aurum, the association’s highest honour. The award recognized his vision and longstanding commitment, which have supported the Escola Europea’s development since its foundation and helped establish it as an international benchmark for training in intermodal transport and logistics.

Over the past twenty years, the association has trained more than 25,000 people and continually broadened its educational offering to address key challenges shaping the future of the sector, including transport decarbonization, the digitalization of logistics chains, maritime–rail intermodality, the energy transition and the application of artificial intelligence to logistics.

By combining academic teaching with hands-on experience, the Escola Europea has developed an innovative training model that gives students and logistics professionals first-hand insight into the workings of intermodal transport. Grimaldi Group vessels serve as floating classrooms, enabling trainees to see how Motorways of the Sea operate and to gain a deeper understanding of the strategic role of maritime transport in international logistics networks.

“As a founding partner, the Grimaldi Group is particularly proud to have supported the Escola Europea since its establishment,” said Emanuele Grimaldi. “We firmly believe that investing in people is just as important as investing in ships, ports and technology. The Escola’s success demonstrates how education can drive innovation, foster a culture of sustainability and equip the professionals who will steer the transport sector through the challenges ahead.”

In recognition of his contribution to the development of the association and its training activities, Antonio Vargas, Board Member of Grimaldi Logística España, was also honoured during the anniversary celebrations. His award further reflects the Italian shipping group’s ongoing commitment to education and innovation, as well as to promoting an increasingly sustainable and integrated transport model.
