Swedish Ambassador visits Finnlines in Świnoujście as Sweden–Poland route attracts over 200,000 passengers

On 10 June, the Swedish Ambassador to Poland, H.E. Martina Quick, visited Finnlines' ro-pax vessel the Finnfellow, deployed on the Świnoujście (Poland) - Malmö (Sweden) route, during her call at the Polish port. The event brought together representatives from Finnlines and the Swedish Embassy in Warsaw, along with customers, partners and media representatives.

The visit provided an opportunity to celebrate the route\'s success, having welcomed over 200,000 passengers since its launch in April 2024. This milestone reflects the growing importance of this shipping service in strengthening ties between Poland and Sweden, and fostering connections across the Baltic Sea.

Held ahead of the busy summer travel season, the event also highlighted the importance of efficient maritime links in supporting tourism, business travel, freight transport and trade between the two countries.

"Sweden and Poland share close and growing ties. Good transport connections play an important role in supporting exchanges between people and businesses in both countries," Ambassador Quick said.

Looking ahead to a busy summer season

The number of passengers on the Świnoujście-Malmö route in summer 2025 increased by 39% compared to the corresponding period in its first year of operation, reflecting growing demand for direct connections between Poland and Sweden.

More than half of the passengers are Polish, with significant numbers of travellers also from Sweden, Germany, the Czech Republic, Norway and Ukraine. Malmö\'s proximity to Copenhagen and the wider Öresund region has further enhanced the route's appeal as a gateway between Scandinavia and Continental Europe.

"Interest in travel between Sweden and Poland continues to grow. We’re looking forward to a busy summer season as more travellers discover the convenience of the route and the destinations it connects," says Marco Palmu, Head of Passenger Services at Finnlines.

Connecting markets

In addition to tourism and passenger travel, the route serves as an important transport corridor for freight between Scandinavia, Poland and Central Europe. By providing reliable sea transport services, Finnlines supports supply chains, facilitates trade and helps businesses access key markets across the region.

"Efficient transport links are essential for trade and economic growth. The Świnoujście–Malmö route strengthens connections between our markets while supporting the movement of both people and goods," says Antonio Raimo, Finnlines Line Manager and Managing Director, Rederi AB Nordö-Link.

In addition to the Malmö–Świnoujście route, which offers daily services for both passengers and freight, Finnlines maintains a strong network connecting Poland with Northern and Western Europe. The company operates the Gdynia (Poland) – Hanko (Finland) freight service with six weekly departures, while its North Sea and Bay of Biscay sailings provide regular connections between Poland and key European markets, further supporting international trade and logistics flows across the region.
