Over 1 million passengers choose Finnlines in 2025

Finnlines’ investments in onboard experience and route network expansion helped drive passenger numbers up by some 9% last year.

The Grimaldi Group company welcomed more than one million passengers on board in 2025, marking an important milestone and confirming strong demand for its passenger services across the Baltic Sea.

Exceeding the one million passenger mark is a significant achievement, and I couldn’t be more delighted. It’s an accomplishment made possible by the efforts of our staff and the trust of our passengers,” said Finnlines Passenger Director Marco Palmu.

Largest growth among Polish travellers

The total number of passengers, including lorry drivers and private travellers, reached 1,021,000 in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 9%. Private passenger numbers grew by more than 13%.

The strongest growth was among Polish travellers on the Sweden–Poland route, which is partially due to the fact that the route was only opened in 2024. The next highest rise was for Finnish travellers on the Finland–Sweden route. Passenger numbers also increased on Finnlines’ Sweden–Germany and Finland–Germany routes.

Sea travel strengthens its position in European transport

The growth in passenger numbers reflects a change in travel behaviour, with ships increasingly viewed as an attractive form of transport to continental Europe.

We aim to make travel to the continent easy and enjoyable, while providing something special on our Finland–Sweden route. Our new ships offer a premium travel experience that stands out from traditional ferry crossings, with a focus on quality, relaxation and shared experiences,” added Marco Palmu.

Continued growth targeted for 2026

In 2026, Finnlines will continue to position its services as a convenient and comfortable way to travel between Nordic countries and mainland Europe.

We want to bring our route selection and service concept combining freight and passengers to the attention of even more travellers, and continue to promote more responsible tourism this year,” Marco Palmu concluded.
