Grimaldi Euromed transfers 5% of the capital of Terminal Darsena Toscana to Compagnia Portuale di Livorno
Grimaldi Euromed S.p.A., a member of the Grimaldi Group, has transferred 5% of the capital of Terminal Darsena Toscana S.r.l. (TDT) to Compagnia Portuale di Livorno Società Cooperativa (CPL). The contract, signed on 9 July, also includes an option for the new shareholder to acquire an additional 5% of the company’s share capital. TDT remains under the control of Grimaldi Euromed S.p.A., which now holds 75%; the remainder is split between Grimaldi Deep Sea S.p.A. (20%) – another Grimaldi Group affiliate – and CPL (5%).
Active in Livorno for over 70
years and previously part of TDT’s corporate structure, CPL is now a
cooperative with over 220 members and 57 employees, playing a central role in
the port’s logistics and operations. Specialized in handling and services, it
is built on operational efficiency, innovation and strategic ownership of
several companies connected to port and terminal activities. Locally rooted,
CPL has long been one of the leading players in the Port of Livorno, known for the
reliability and quality of its work.
TDT manages the main container
terminal in the port of Livorno. With a total concession area of 370,000 square
metres and four operational berths, it has 250 direct employees and handles
around 450 ships per year. In 2025, TDT expects to exceed 400,000 TEUs
(Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), marking a year-on-year traffic increase of over
10%.
Strategically located, the
terminal has easy road access and a direct connection to the national railway
network. With around 1,300 trains operated annually, TDT is implementing a
major infrastructure investment plan aimed at boosting rail freight traffic;
this is expected to deliver environmental sustainability and reduce road
congestion locally and regionally.
TDT is also one of the key
players in Livorno’s cold chain, thanks to its expertise in handling imported
refrigerated containers, which account for over 10% of total traffic. The
terminal also serves as a strategic hub exporting goods to Central and North
America (United States and Canada).
An additional boost to TDT’s activities comes from the recent opening of the new Border Control Post at the Port of Livorno, which will allow further expansion of importable product categories and reduce the forwarding time for goods arriving from non-EU markets.
