Malta advances its maritime future with MMOS–Maritime MT agreement
In a landmark moment for Malta’s maritime sector, on 29 April Malta Motorways of the Sea (MMOS), a company that is part
of the Grimaldi Group, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with MaritimeMT,
one of the nation’s foremost maritime training institutions.
The agreement marks a bold step towards strengthening Malta’s position
as a hub for maritime excellence, while investing directly in the next
generation of seafarers. It establishes a structured pathway for maritime
cadets, offering sea-time placements, onboard mentorship, and STCW-compliant
training on MMOS and Grimaldi Group vessels. These hands-on experiences—from
bridge watchkeeping to engine room duties—will be supervised by seasoned
maritime professionals, ensuring that cadets receive not only technical
knowledge but also leadership guidance.
Beyond individual careers, the alliance strengthens Malta’s maritime
infrastructure. MMOS is expanding its presence locally by establishing an ISM
(International Safety Management) company, hiring Maltese professionals, and
reinforcing port logistics and crew management services. This initiative is aligned
with the Grimaldi Group’s global strategy while leveraging Malta’s local
expertise and ambition.
Crucially, the agreement also reflects a deep commitment to inclusion and
sustainability. MMOS and MaritimeMT are working together to ensure that more
women are supported in maritime careers, while recognizing diversity as a key
driver of progress. With an eye on the future, both organizations are focused
on nurturing a workforce ready for digital operations and greener shipping.
The MoA is a symbol of shared purpose, promising growth, innovation and a
new era for Malta’s maritime landscape. “This
partnership will provide not just trained seafarers, but future maritime
leaders,” emphasized MMOS Managing Director Paolo
Satariano at the signing ceremony. “It is a declaration of belief in Malta, in
maritime education and in the cadets who will lead our industry forward.”
