Grande Texas crew commended for rescue effort near Gibraltar
On 18
August, while en route from Gioia Tauro (Italy) to Baltimore (USA), the crew of
the Grimaldi Group’s PCTC vessel Grande Texas assisted two people in
difficulty off the coast of Málaga (Spain).
While sailing
towards Gibraltar, the vessel’s crew spotted two people on a jet ski who needed
assistance, and immediately contacted the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre
(MRCC) in Tarifa. The Search & Rescue Vessel Salvamar Illes Pitiu
was dispatched from Málaga; meanwhile, the Grande Texas maintained her
position, monitoring the jet ski as instructed, until the SAR boat’s arrival.
The two stranded
Moroccans were found to be in good health and were safely taken aboard the
rescue boat. The jet ski was towed back to Málaga. Following the successful
rescue operation, the Grande Texas resumed her voyage in the direction
of Gibraltar.
In
recognition of their actions, MRCC Tarifa sent a letter of gratitude to the Grimaldi
Group, commending the “humanity and professionalism” of the Grande
Texas’s Captain and crew.
