The Port of Barcelona authorizes the transfer of Terminal Ferry Barcelona to Grimaldi Terminal Barcelona
During a
meeting held on 29 November, the Board of Directors of the Port of Barcelona
authorized Terminal Ferry Barcelona S.L, a company of the Armas
Trasmediterránea Group, to sell its concession in the Spanish port to Grimaldi
Terminal Barcelona, S.L. Following this transfer, the two ferry terminals
will be unified under a single concession held by Grimaldi Terminal Barcelona,
S.L.
Terminal
Ferry Barcelona occupies an area of 100,000 m2 on the Sant Bertran
and Ponent piers, on which the Grimaldi Group has already been operating
regularly with the ships of its subsidiary Trasmed GLE, providing maritime
connections to and from the Balearic Islands.
Operational
since 2013, Grimaldi Terminal Barcelona currently covers an area of 87,000 m2
on the Ponent, Costa and Contradic piers.
The sale
was authorized by the Spanish National Market and Competition Commission, on
condition that Grimaldi Terminal Barcelona would return to the Port of
Barcelona an area of 44,000 m2 as well as 650 meters of
preferential berthing located between the Costa and Contradic piers.
The
unification of the concessions will bring improvements in the services that the
terminal offers for passengers, vehicles, ro-ro cargo as well as ships,
allowing the joint management of docking, loading and unloading operations,
vehicles and port access.
