Grande Senegal refloated
Naples, 2nd August 2023: Grimaldi Deep Sea (a company of the Grimaldi Group), operator of the ro/ro vessel Grande Senegal (IMO: 9377470) is pleased to announce that the vessel, which grounded on the 22nd of July at about 20 nautical miles off Sisal in Mexico, has been finally refloated.
The operations were safely carried out by Smit, a specialized international company appointed by Grimaldi Deep Sea, following a salvage plan approved by the Mexican authorities and without causing any injuries or pollution. The Grande Senegal was then towed to the Progreso Anchorage where inspections to ascertain her seaworthiness will be made.
After a recent diving inspection made by a specialised team, no evidence of damage to the local sea floor and underwater environment has been identified sofar.
Grimaldi Deep Sea wishes to thank all parties involved in the salvage operations and will continue to offer maximum cooperation to the competent local authorities in the investigations to find out the cause of the grounding of the vessel.
The Grande Senegal had left Altamira on the 20th of July and was bound for Brunswick. Around 1.900 vehicles including cars and vans are being carried on board.
The Italian-flag vessel, built in 2010, is
deployed on the North America-Europe regular ro/ro service operated by Grimaldi
Deep Sea.
