Mediterranean Express Service

Dedicated to the transport of rolling freight, containers and project cargo, the "Mediterranean Express" service (MEX) directly connects the Mediterranean area with West Africa. With regular departures every 11 days, this line serves directly the ports of Salerno, Livorno, Genoa, Marseilles, Sète, Valencia, Casablanca, Dakar, Lome, Lagos, Cotonou and Abidjan. Moreover, the whole Mediterranean is linked with other ports of Africa thanks to the Grimaldi regular services from the Group's terminals in Dakar and Lagos. Ports served in transhipment are Takoradi(Ghana), Conakry (Guinea), Freetown (Sierra Leone), Doula (Cameroon), Pointe Noire (Congo-Brazzaville), Libreville (Gabon), Tema (Ghana), and Luanda (Angola).

Two con/ro vessels of the "Repubblica" class together with two con/ro vessels of "Grande" class are deployed on this route. Having each an ideal intake of 800 TEU, 2,000 cars/vans and 2,000 linear metres of rolling cargo, the "Grande" class vessels are also equipped with two cranes on the weather deck capable of handling units with a weight of up to 40 tonnes as well as a stern ramp capable of loading rolling units weighing up to 150 tonnes. The "Repubblica" vessels have an ideal intake of 2,400 linear metres of rolling cargo, 700 cars/vans and 600 TEU each.
