Grimaldi recognized for sustainable tourism
In an era of growing attention to environmental protection and social
responsibility, tourism is being called upon to profoundly rethink its
development model. This is the message from the prestigious Spain Talks Awards,
conferred by the Spanish Tourism Institute Turespaña on companies in the sector
that have distinguished themselves in integrating sustainability and tourism.
Among the winners of the second edition of the Awards, held in Rome on
October 29, was the Grimaldi Group: the Neapolitan shipping company received
the Business Award for its long-standing commitment to creating value, thanks
to an increasingly comprehensive ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance)
project and a set of well-established best practices in favour of truly
sustainable, accessible and inclusive tourism.
“We are very proud to receive this award, which is a powerful tool for
awareness sharing and innovation,” said Grimaldi Lines Head of Passenger
Department Francesca Marino. “Honouring
companies, products and operators that work every day towards more sustainable
tourism means contributing decisively to a widespread cultural shift.”
“The Grimaldi Group, active in the maritime passenger
transport sector through its brands Grimaldi Lines, Minoan Lines, Finnlines and
Trasmed, is a shining example of how shipping companies can integrate the
principles of sustainability, accessibility and inclusion into their business
processes—not only with regard to voyages, but also in relation to the
destinations we sail to and the communities we engage with,” Francesca Marino concluded.
In particular, the trip from Italy to Spain, Grimaldi Lines’ top
destination featuring the major port of Barcelona, offers travellers a genuine
experience of slow, sustainable and accessible tourism. Spain is served by the
two sister flagships, Cruise Roma and Cruise Barcelona, the
jewels of the fleet. They boast an important record: they are the first ships
in the Mediterranean with zero emissions in port, thanks to innovative,
high-tech lithium batteries that operate during stopovers.
